What kind of Media Institution might distribute your media product and why?

The two media institutions that I have studied is Bauer media and Condé Nast

Any magazine that is new to the market must find a good distributor because it is important to chose a good distributor like Condé Nast and Bauer media that has high reputation so joining one of these companies will give any magazine that is new to the market a good reputation too and this is the same thing with magazine so I am going to explore the two companies and discuss the advantages and the disadvantages of the companies taking my media product, then I should be able to come up with a conclusion of with magazine will be more likely to distribute my media product and the reason why they would to.

Bauer Media

Bauer Media is Europe’s Largest privately owned publishing group that is a worldwide media empire offering over 300 magazines in 15 countries, for example: online, TV and radio stations. Their business is built on influential media brands with millions of personal with engaged readers and listeners. When Bauer media establish a media product, they are likely to launch that media product into other areas too such as TV and radio and this can happen to my magazine if they accept my media product first so full metal TV, Fullmetal radio station and this is the advantages of Bauer media.

 The audiences that follow Bauer in the Mosaic UK classification are all of O (rental hubs) because they are less likely to have a lot of money to afford a expense magazine also Bauer media doesn't charge a lot for their magazine and also on the Mosaic UK classification is J41 (Disconnected Youths) they are similar to those in O (Rental hub) however some of the audiences from Bauer media might be I(Family Basics), G(Domestic success) and H(Aspiring homemakers) because some of their magazines are prestigious too however not as Condé Nast with Vogue. On the psychographic profiling the audience is Mainstreamers because they go with the flow and for my audiences for my magazine are individualists depending on how they response to the magazine for example: if they are really passive they will follow what the heavy metal artists do and their attitudes. 

Bauer Media owns a magazine that is similar to mine already “Kerrang” so they will know what types of audiences that my magazine will attract also they will know how to distribute my magazine so I am confident that they will do a good job in the way they distribute my magazine and this is an advantage of them disturbing my magazine. However my magazine focus more on heavy metal music than different types of rock like kerrang does so my audiences will be slightly different from “kerrang", Bauer media is likely to represent a social group who is similar to mine due to the lots of magazines they have so I can gain some of their audiences also.

Bauer media is more likely to accept my media product because they reach the audiences differently with the products they already have for example: some of their media products might attract teenagers and another media product of theirs may attract elderly people to like it this means that they will use a media product to gain an audience group that they don’t already have.

The disadvantage of joining Bauer media if they accept my product is that they already have a well-known rock magazine like “kerrang” so they will prioritise “kerrang” first than my magazine because “kerrang” has been out for long time now and it popular too so they will focus on that more which means that my magazine won’t be well known or noticed as much as “kerrang” however Bauer media can use their cross media convergence to promote and advertise on another platform so that that my media product will be noticed like “kerrang” or launch my media product on a different platform like “Fullmetal” TV sounds like a music channel because of the name and this can be an advantages of joining kerrang.

Condé Nast

Advanced publication is the parent company over Condé Nast so this means that Condé Nast is a subsidiary company (Daughter Company).  Prestigious company and the world's leading multimedia company that continues to create the finest magazine brand. Also the company has a high reputation and the type of audiences they attract is tend to is on the Mosaic UK Classifications is G(Domestic success) and F(suburban stability) and in the psychographic profiling the audience are Aspires and succeeders because they have money afford the latest products from the magazine also they spend money on status goods.

The advantages of being distribute by this company is that they my magazine will gain a wider larger audience because might be people in the G(Domestic Success) and F(suburban Stability) may buy my magazine because Condé Nast having a high reputation, their audiences might go with what Condé Nast produces because of its reputation.

Condé Nast is a well-known company and they have a high reputation so the chances of my magazine being accepted and distribute my magazines are low because Condé Nast is a type of company that promotes Niche types of magazines and not really mainstream as other magazines because their audience is a small group of people who have an unique interest however the because of this unique interest maybe my magazine might have a chance after all due to not everyone might be into heavy metal and that’s the advantages and disadvantages of Condé Nast distribute my magazine.

The type of social group that Condé Nast will have will be completely different from my magazine social group so the Condé Nasts social group won't like my magazine and Condé Nast has a high reputation that they want to build on and keep because of their high reputation they might not accept my magazine due it’s my magazine’s music genre is associated as being bad music or too noisily that they won’t accept my magazine and this is a disadvantage of Condé Nast.

Conclusion

Bauer is more likely to accept my magazine than Condé Nast due its high reputation also Condé Nast hasn’t worked with my media product before so they may not do a good job on distributing my media product as Bauer Media would because I have a similar magazine to them for example: “Kerrang”.

Why I chose the second draft than the first draft

First attempt

This picture is the first attempt of my front cover so far and I want to make another one because it is unlikely for a heavy metal/rock magazine to be in black and white also the picture is slightly overexposed and this when I use the black and white colours and this is not a good thing. also I didn't really follow the code and convection about the masthead being behind the main image also the logo takes a large part of the main image. The main image looks overexposed and that's not good it looks unnatural also his hair has white bits at the end.

Second attempt

I am not going to use the fullmetal logo because there is no place to put it in my front cover and it doesn't really make an big impact of to my magazine if I am not going to use it because not all magazines has a logo also I can use the masthead as the logo because it is one of the codes and convection for a magazine to use the masthead as the logo of the magazine because using the logo the audience can tell which magazine it is because of the logo and its the same thing with the masthead, the audience can know the magazine due to the name of the magazine also the colour scheme I am using for my masthead.

In this one I have followed the code and convection of my front cover also in colour looks better because the main image doesn't look overexposed as before in the black and white.

This is the original picture and this is the picture I am going to use for my front cover and I want to use this because its a medium shot and the audience can see the facial expression of Nathan and see his body language and he is making an rock out sign/symbol.

I used photoshop to change the picture, I darken it because it was slightly overexposed and it didn't look good like that if I put an overexposed photo on the front cover it would look unprofessional  also its not a code and convention to see an main image which is overexposed.

The first two top functions makes the main image slightly darker so it will be suitable to be a front cover and make it not overexposed.

"Background copy 2"  is the main image of Nathaniel and it has no background just the main image of the Nathaniel and that is in front of the other main image.

"Fullmetal" is the masthead and I want it behind the main image because its the code of convention to have the masthead behind the main image also the effects I change to the word "fullmetal" by clicking on "drop shadow", "Inner shadow", "Bevel and Emboss" and satin" and this make the fullmetal masthead red and to have a shadow behind it.

This is the picture that has the background and this is main image that is behind the other main image and thats how I put the masthead behind the main image.



This is what the front cover main image looks like now and the background colour makes the masthead stand out more than before.

Second time taking pictures

These are the ones I might choose for the contents page or the front cover or double spread page.
This is what the stage looks like.

This is a medium shot of Nathaniel, my model and he is making a rock out sign/symbol and he is sticking his tongue out and this is what a heavy metal artists do. This slightly underexposed, I think it there a way to make it less bright I could use Photoshop if I know which icon does what function to make the picture less bright.

This is a medium shot, it shows my models face and its serious and he is making a rock out sign/symbol. His costume is leather coat and this clothes that they usually wear and the props is necklace around his neck also he has piecing on his face and they sometimes have it too. I might use this front cover.

This is medium long shot, the picture shows that my model is looking serious and that he is in deep concentration and this picture is more suitable for double spread or contents.

This is a medium long shot of Nathaniel and his arms folded and he is looking right at the audience with his facial expression being so serious.

This low angle shot and I used fan again blowing on the right to make my model hair to go on the left and its show power and a dominant character he is. The picture is slightly underexposed this could undone using photoshop.

Amie 
This medium long shot. This is Amie making a rock out sign/symbol and her facial expression is like a half smile kind of and is suitable front cover, contents and double page spread.  Her prop is that she has a lip piercing and a necklace around her neck also bracelet around wrist on the left and right.

This medium shot, it shows my model making another rock out sign/symbol however it’s on the right side also on the wrist metal bracelet on right and she is slightly smiling and this acceptable because heavy metal rock stars do smile but not a lot like Amie is doing in the picture 

This is a low angle shot, I did this to try to make her look dominant however she smiled and I can’t use this photo for my front cover or anything else. Maybe I can actually because this could be used for the double page spread to show how nice and friendly she is and this can link the audiences to watch to read the article.

This is a medium shot and its show how my model body language and is and how her facial expression and it is serious and her arms folded shows that she is in a serious attitude and this is what some of the heavy metal artists pose like too.








The pictures that I am going to use is this one before as my front cover because Nathaniel is making a rock out sign/symbol and that is associated with this genre also he is wearing black and this again is what I saw when I was doing my research, for example: (mise en scene)the T-shirt and the leather coat jacket this what I saw in my research and that is a code and convection I saw in my research a lot and he is also wearing necklaces and this is what they wear too his necklace has a skull and this again goes with the genre.

Ben

This picture shows power and authority of the model because his arms are folded and his face is serious, its an medium shot of him and he is looking directly at the audience and this will get their attention also the audience can see what is he wearing a black T-shirt that has a picture of a skull and this shows how scary he is.

This picture shows that he plays guitar and that he has his head high and this shows that hes looking down at people.
This picture is a medium close up and the audience can see the spiky bracelets and the necklaces he is wearing.

This picture is a wide medium shot and it shows the costume that the rock star is wearing properly and this is what they would normally wear.

This is a long shot and this shows everything of whats he is wearing and the props, this picture shows

This picture shows how he is a angry or he is looking at something disgusting.
This is a medium close up of him and its to show his face. The picture is in a dark background due to the lighting and this is underexposed so I might not use this picture however I am use Photoshop to manipulate the picture to make it, look the way I want it to look on the front cover or on the double spread page.

This is a long shot and it shows power and authority because his arms are folded also his head is slightly tilted down to show that this power and authority he has also another costume of his is that he is wearing black jeans and this is the type of clothes they wear also he is staring straight at the audiences.

This is another long shot, its similar to the one above however its a different pose and this pose is that he is making a fist and this again shows power and strength. This pictures shows that he is angry at something or someone and he looking straight at the audience so it looks like he is angry at the audiences.
His left arm is overexposed so this isn't suitable for my magazine.










This is a long shot and it shows the mise en scene costume that my model is wearing and the costume he is wearing is associated with a heavy metal type of band also the facial expression he is making shows that he is angry. This is a picture that I could use for the double spread page.

This is a medium shot and my model’s hair is going backwards this because the fan was facing him.

This is a long medium shot and my model arms are folded and this shows that he is annoyed, angry at something and if the audience see this they will think it’s them because he is directly looking in to the audience’s.

This is again another medium long shot, my model focus is on his hand, and it could be a metaphor to show that he got the power in his hands also again the fan is blowing on the right side this time.

Damien 

This is a medium shot of Damien and he is making a rock out sign/symbol and this is what heavy metal artists do also there is black eye liner under his eyes and this is what the make-up they wear too.

He is wearing a leather coat jacket and that is the type of costume a heavy metal artists would wear.

This is a medium long shot of my model, this picture shows that he plays the guitar and this is the type of instrument heavy metal artists usually plays also in this shot, the audience can see the type of T-shirt he is wearing and its black again this links to what a heavy metal type of artists would wear.

This a medium shot, this shows the facial expression of my model, the face that he is making is a disgusted type of face as in he is disgusted of what he sees a kind of scary face to scare people off. The prop is the necklace around his neck, a yin and yang.this could show that he has two sides to him.

This is a medium long shot and it shows that proud of himself, however his eyes looks like its close and this can the audience less interested in the magazine if they see this on the front cover so it’s not suitable. 

This is low angle shot and this is trying to represent power and authority because heavy metal artists look powerful also that’s the purpose of a low angle shot to power. This picture shows the ceilings and this is not suitable to be in my magazine however I can use Photoshop to get rid of the background if I want to use this picture.

This a medium shot, and it’s the disgusted face however it’s with a leather jacket so it slightly different. 

Looking at the pictures I can say that there some good pictures I can potential use how ever I want to make a decision when I take pictures of my other models to pick the best one that is suitable for my front cover.

Final decision on the double page spread

Double page spread

What I had previously post about what decisions I am going to put in my double spread is not a double page spread because it going to look like to different pages also I didn't see this in my research so I have to think of a new idea that I am going to put on my double page spread. what I am going to will be explained in this post.

In my double page spread I want to have a double spread page about a up-coming event and the content of the up-coming event is going to be articles about bands and artists that who is going to play and so there is going to be a picture of where the up-coming event is going to be and pictures of some of the artists/bands that will play there and the text will be articles about some of the artists/bands.

By doing this, it allows me to use the feedback from what I got from the respondents who has taken part in my questionnaire.

The text on the left page is going to talk about facts about the up-coming events, how long it has been going on and stuff like that, how many bands/artists are taking parts this year and its kinda a preview of whats going to happen so the articles are not going to explain everything in detail just a belief or whats going to happen on that day.

Then on the right page is going to be a picture of the up-coming events/ bands that are going to take part this year and then text about the bands/artists so a article about the band/artists and so reviews about them also and this again it me using my feedback from what I got from the respondents who taken part in my questionnaire.

However this idea that I want to, I haven't seem in it in my research and I am not trying to invent a new magazine so I won't be able to make this on my double page spread.

Instead in my double spread I am going to have a band/artists and its articles and reviews about them and how they become a artists/bands.

On the left page the double spread page could be a article about the band/artists and then a review about them also and facts about them that the audience wants to know about them.

Then on the right page is going to be pictures of the bands/artists and then more text about them and then at the bottom right corner will be a music chart update to inform the audiences about popular songs and bands.

This is the decision I am going to go with because I saw this in my research for all of my magazine they have articles and reviews about them on the same page.
